Summit Description
This one-day meeting includes plenary sessions, the launching of a distance-education course for consumer advocates, and workshops designed to provide practical training for consumer advocates on how to access and apply evidence-based healthcare to their advocacy and educational efforts.

The meeting is hosted by Consumers United for Evidence-based Healthcare (CUE) and the United States Cochrane Center (USCC) and supported by the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ). CUE is a pioneering coalition of advocates united by a common interest in integrating evidence-based healthcare into their advocacy activities.

This is the first CUE meeting to be open to the public. Come to the forum to learn more about evidence-based healthcare from the experts, exchange information with other advocates about work in areas of mutual interest, learn from other organizations, and engage in discussion about consumer advocate/researcher partnerships.

Who should attend:
The intended audience includes consumer advocates, clinicians, policymakers, researchers, funders, and others.

Objectives:

  1. Build a critical mass of US-based consumer advocates trained to prepare and use the essential elements of EBHC;
  2. Increase collaboration between Cochrane Collaboration contributors, the USCC, CUE, other consumer advocacy organizations, policymakers, consumers, clinicians, government, and payers;
  3. Provide training on EBHC and critical appraisal of the healthcare literature for consumer advocates;
  4. Provide a forum for communication on incorporating evidence into advocacy activities;
  5. Contribute to improving the quality of healthcare through cooperative efforts to produce and use clinical evidence;
  6. Increase awareness of, involvement in, and contribution to the principles of EBHC among US consumers.
