Cochrane CENTRAL Advisory Group (CCAG)

The Cochrane CENTRAL Advisory Group (CCAG) was appointed by The Cochrane Collaboration Steering Group in February 1998 to guide the development of the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL). CENTRAL is a register of studies that may be relevant for inclusion in Cochrane systematic reviews and contains controlled trial reports from all over the world in many languages. CENTRAL is published on The Cochrane Library, and is updated quarterly. CENTRAL includes over four hundred thousand citations of controlled trial reports from all over the world. Additional information on CENTRAL can be found at: http://www.cochrane.us/tsc_faq.htm.

The CCAG remit indicates that it is responsible for maintaining the CENTRAL Management Plan, which provides guidelines to assist Cochrane entities in submitting trial reports to CENTRAL. The CCAG is also responsible for developing procedures to:

  • Transfer trial reports to CENTRAL from the Cochrane entity specialized registers;
  • Assist with identifying and processing handsearch results from international health literature, submitted by the Cochrane entities.

It takes on other tasks as needed by the Cochrane Collaborative Review Groups, Fields, Networks and Centers for the development of CENTRAL. The CCAG conducts meetings at annual Cochrane Colloquia, and via teleconference. CCAG members also communicate regularly via an email discussion list.
